Performance
Our CPU chart has been compiled to show the the effect that a computer's CPU has on overall system performance - remembering that the other components, including system memory and hard drives, remain relatively uniform in their performance. As an example, if a computer is primarily being used for office functions, then a basic Core i3 2100 processor will provide more than adequate processing horsepower. If the computer is going to be used for 2D tasks, like working in Adobe Photoshop, then a new Intel i5 2300 will perform nearly as well as an Intel i7 at a lower price point. If the primary task is 3D rendering, then a Core i7 2600 would be the better choice.
Of course, other factors have an effect on overall system performance - especially descrete vs. on-board video graphics.
